Project summary

Horticulture sicilian, with its strong vocation for the production of tomatoes, is faced with the growing challenge of soil-borne pathogens that threaten the health of the crops and the sustainability of agricultural practices. The project Bio Pathogens Management offers a state of the art solution: the Pest control Anaerobic Soil (ASD), a technique microbiological which, together with the valorization of agricultural wastes, regenerate the land and protects the crops in a natural way.
Bio Pathogens Management is a collaborative project that was born from the desire to provide farmers sicilian effective and respectful of the environment to combat soil-borne pathogens, one of the main causes of loss of production in the sector of the tomato.
Objectives
- Reduced environmental impact: Reduce drastically the use of chemical fumigant, protecting soil, water and air.
- Health of the crops: effectively Control the soil-borne pathogens to get more plants strong and productive.
- Circular economy: utilize agricultural waste through composting and re-use in the disinfection of the soil.
- Quality and safety: Get tomatoes with less chemical residues, ensuring a healthier product for consumers.
Actions
- Experimentation in the field: we Test the effectiveness of ASD in different conditions of cultivation.
- Bio-security: we Use microorganisms and mycorrhizae to protect the plants from diseases.
- Training and outreach: Transferring knowledge to farmers to encourage the adoption of sustainable practices.
Results
- Significant reduction in the incidence of diseases of tomato.
- Decrease of 100% of the use of chemical fumigant.
- Improve the fertility of the soil and its biodiversity.
- Increase the quality and the commercial value of the product.
- The creation of a model of agriculture circular and sustainable
